How to Rig It
Lead fly with a heavy nymph dropper 24-36" below. The ultimate hopper-dropper anchor.
How to Present It
Slap it tight to the bank, mend hard, drift it for 6-8 feet, then pick up and slap again. The splash is part of the trigger.
Why It Works
Foam over foam means it floats forever — even with a heavy beadhead dropper hanging off it. The two indicator wings and rubber legs trigger explosive eats from cutthroat and browns.
History
Popularized in the 2000s by Idaho and Wyoming guides as a more durable, more visible alternative to the original Chernobyl Ant.
Pro Tip
Tan/purple is the universal color, but if fish refuse it, switch to royal (peacock body) — the change in profile often resets a wary fish.
